@Renowned Spartan - old HoH holding mode sucked, op builds designed just for that would be holding for hours. Sure, people would spend time making builds, but that was just because they didn't have enough knowledge to make a good, working build. These days people know which skills work and which don't, and they still do keep trying to make new builds. Only difference is that now they won't make completely rubbish builds like newbies in the past used to. Would you say that newborn baby is smarter than 7 year old kid? Your point just fails. Everyone was a newbie and "stupid" in beginning, but people advanced now and they did learn how to play.
And of course the HA population is low, it is because entire GW population is low, the game is dying, now that is a fact. It can't be proved by clear facts and figures (pure statistics) unlike your "facts".

HoH wins favour system was bad, it was so easily abused. Sure, I had fun waking up in the mornings and instantly taking the favour from silly yanks, but pve people didn't have fun at all. It was just unfair.
Just keep the favour as it is, it will for for another month at least since people will grind titles for GW 2 (read: WoW 2).
I really hate it when some fly by night player who only had the wherewithall to join guru in the last year of this game's existence comes in and thinks with some jumbled rhetoric he can disprove a point. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

The whole 7 year old vs. a baby argument probably belongs in the topic "dumbest things I've ever heard in game or on guru". Are you seriously making that argument? I'm not even going to address this with the amount of stupidity festering from that statement..

Secondly, declining or non-existent population in HA is not a result of declining interest in the game. It is directly correlated to various unpopular format changes, skill nerfs, and other random updates that were intended to improve the state of HA..but backfired and killed off the players who kept groups formed and interest thriving (Refer to HA Subforums on here, I know you're new around here so if you need me to link you I can do that!). Any player who actually was a tombs/pvp rat would know this. Which has me starting to wonder..

@Renowned Spartan

Well, I have my titles, my HA and all other ranks, my HoM, and definitely my name to prove that I played this game longer than you did. I never abandoned it, I've kept playing during all these years and I definitely know more than most of the others, at least when it comes to HA and pvp in general.
Even nowadays HA is still good and playable, but I guess you wouldn't know that, because you haven't been around long enough to earn a name.

There is really no need to insult nor discuss non-topic related things. I disagree with your point that favour being linked with HoH wins brought any good to GW. It was bad and definitely unfair for others. It should stay the way it is now.

If you were worth my time, and not merely just some early morning amusement/jest, I could entertain you with names and players that I participated in with for the latter part of 6 years. But alas, you are not.

As pointed out countless times before, HoH favor was ideal but will never work now due to the lack of interest in HA and now this game.

Its a fact that the HA playerbase is very small, and most teams simply farm fame and stop before even entering the hall of heroes.
Getting in a decent team that makes it to hoh let alone win is very hard if not almost impossible if you are not already high ranked , have a dedicated guild, or know the right people.

Most people counter this by saying that newbies should group with each other to learn and gradually get better. However there is not really a lot of incentive to do so.
You will pretty much get stomped at uw unless you happen to be matched against another newbie group.
getting fame this way is so terribly slow that most people won't even bother to get past rank 3, if they even get there, let alone pug to r10+ which appears to be the bare minimum for most parties nowadays ( exceptions are there from time to time, but the majority of groups is rank restricted).

Even popular fame farming builds like pre-nerf invoke cannot really remedy this.
Because of this there are more people leaving HA then actually joining the format.
As such it is not a good idea to base the world favor upon winning hoh.
There are not enough players in HA to support the entire PvE side of the game.
Let alone why would they care?
PvE and PvP are entirely different formats, so there is a high barrier to do PvP in order to get into the PvE area you want.
The same goes for PvP.
Why would a dedicated PvP player go to the PvE side?
Not his cup of tea.

but you do 3 ZMission with bonus and you have at least 150 Bronze Zcoin - enough for 1 Scroll. The Favor mechanic is just an added bonus for Favor but its not required to enter UW or FOW.

Really this thread is composed of 99% nonsense, nothing can be done to fix the game, im still surprised people are still making suggestions when the release of gw2 is impending, this game died years and years ago.

People play competitive games that have a simple format, they last much longer.

Guild wars had multiple arenas and these arenas had multiple maps with multiple objectives, the learning curve was too hard for most of the guild wars population to grasp as the game evolved.

You can't just randomly jump on and play the serious formats without having vent or ts, it was a must(cept for koreans) and it took the casual feel of the game away, honestly it was good at the beginning of the game because you can be bad at the game and still win with iway/vim/sway and dozens of spike gimmick builds while having fun.

As renowned said on some points, bad format changes tied in with lots of factors caused the game to deteriorate very fast, do people not understand that 'original' is always the best?
it was fun while it lasted for those who were there in the first couple of years but really nothing can be done or will be done for that matter.

Should just let the game rip, all the formats have been dead/joke for more than 3 years now

I disagree, all PvP formats are still alive, maybe not every day, but at least on quest days and weekends they are. I never used vent for HA nor GvG, yet I definitely won over a thousand HoH matches over all these years and got a silver cape in GvG. Sure GvG thing was in 2011 but we had henchies so it counts! I didn't play GvG that much anyway, but point is casual players do have fun and they do win. A competitive player who wants to learn and wants to win will try. Problem with PvE mentality is simple, they're lazy -----

I really hope the favour will stay the way it is, even tho it's useless in a way since there are so many scrolls around. But I guess at least their price will go up.

pve people are not all lazy...some just dont like pvp! (as some pvp people dont like pve...).

scrolls are good and easy enough to get--as was mentioned, but I still see them changing this (and a few other things to make playing solo easier) in the future (next year perhaps?).

the next few months will tell.

Oh I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that twenty or so players on a quest day playing one match at UW and then shooting straight to Halls was considered a "PvP format still alive". That's dead my friend...not even close to a pulse in there. I spammed in Kamadan, GToB, and LA last night with a guildie for 2 hours to muster up 10 players to play halls..and at that point no one could even roll desired characters for an organized PUG. You can thank two people for that:

1) Incompetent developers who wanted to dumb the game down for inept players who couldn't adapt to players more skilled and competetive than them..that's what we call "enabling" (ie: 6v6 format, heroe's/henches introduced to teams, multiple skill nerfs/balances).

and

2) Those whiny, less-than-dirt players who complained about elitism and lack of finding a group instead of struggling like everyone else who had once been there in their HA career. Oh, I'm sorry you couldn't /rank for a month or so until you could muster up that 180 fame!

Add these two factors, couple it with..dare I say.."PvE Elitists?" (oh yes, see what I did there?) who couldn't cool their roll and wait for favor..and you get a dead, once GREAT, once UNPRECEDENTED, PvP format.

GW2 will be a fraction of what this game was in terms of PvP. I'm predicting a lot of players will play it for a few months and take off. GW1, aside from no monthly fees, was popular because of it's PvP which seperated it from other cookie cutter MMO's. You don't have anything of the like in GW2 (Don't say WvW because that's just a FPS mess of button smashers walking in with no semblance of skill chaining). GW2 is catered to PvE'ers...but alas, the tides have turned and that is life.

Do you read your own sentences, you contradicted yourself buddy.

You obviously picked this game up less than 3 years ago.

The game in the first 2 years didn't need rewards other than just fame+halls loot to make people come and play daily.

I'd like to remind you that the Earth is mostly spherical. Not a completely perfect sphere, but if it was a pool ball, it would be within regulations, so that's quite smooth and spherical.

That sphere keeps rotating, and when it does, sunlight strikes it all around.

That's what makes days and nights.

So, when you see 20 players, I'll see 20 players if I logged in, but when I log in, I see way over 50 players (50 on each side for Factions' modes). Which is more than enough for most PvP modes.

Unfortunately, it's impossible to have players 24/7, as you can see in statistics like Steam's :
http://store.steampowered.com/stats/

Players fluctuate.

If you can't find players at a given hour, then you should consider re-scheduling to play at some other item.

It's quite delusional to think that despite the dead player base in this game, of which is a direct result of incompetence by developers/skill balancers/nerfers, that certain time zones still produce a healthy number of HA teams.

That is untrue and couldn't be more of an example of someone living in a fantasy land of unicorns and lollipops.

Edit: I would also like to point out that 50 players is not "more than enough" for all forms of PvP. It is if you want to win one battle and shoot straight to HoH..something that was never an intent of this game's PvP format developers. HA was built on the principle of fighting multiple teams from different nations, battling to the top through every obstacle, or map, in this case. Hence why you see a little cut-screen cinematic before every map is loaded.

"You have now reached the Underworld...oh wait, we're skipping to Hall of Heroes!!!"

Epic lulz.

The only thing I'm worried about is when GW2 comes out, how many "title hunters" will there be left to even get a decent favor?

And even then we can simply just buy scrolls and get in.
I agree that the KoaBD title track is a reward on its own.

I do think anet didn't choose the right way of handling favor...but it's too late to change that.
Even if it was still based on HoH wins...Heroes' Ascent is pretty much dead...

HA is not dead, euro late afternoons and evenings are more than active. And there will always be title hunters, people will want to get their HoM ready even when GW 2 is out, just to get "cool" looking titles.

It's no use arguing with you. I could have better, more productive and efficient arguments with a brick wall.

HA is not alive. You did not play when that format was truly alive and it is evident by your fanciful idea that HA is still somehow thriving. Two teams is not even having a pulse, let alone a heartbeat.

Enjoy sitting for 1 hour after killing Zaishen to get a team in UW and then skipping right to halls. Yes, that format is so alive!

Sorry, I play at euro times, I never get more than 1 or 2 restarts. Try different time zone HA is becoming more and more alive every day. Oh and I've been playing HA for 6 years. And it was only getting better and better. A good player will adjust to any build, any situation while bad ones will cry about how "good" the old times were. Those people don't have the skill to adjust, they can't think outside of the box.

I find it quite sad to read here all this whining about HA being dead. Go there and play it, you'll see it's alive. Sure it's not anywhere close to what it was years ago but it's definitely not dead.

Also, do people care about favour that much when scrolls are so cheap and everyone gets them after finished uw or fow run.

Where did builds come into this, and "old players not being able to adjust" (which is clearly a feeble attempt at a poke at me)?

Funny you should post when according to your suggested logic, Euro times would be active in HA. Guess thats not the case today, huh?

Actually, it was more than active. It was active from early euro afternoon and it still is active now. Consider actually playing the game. HA is active again, people got back.
